At PsychMed, we are making efforts as individuals and as an organisation to reduce our impact on the environment. One of our initiatives towards going green has been our recent implementation of a composting and bin system across our clinics for better waste disposal.
Every year in Australia, tonnes of green waste is thrown into landfill. When organic waste decomposes in landfills, it produces large amounts of harmful gases that contribute to global warming such as methane – a much more damaging greenhouse gas than CO2. In addition, waste that is not recycled or reused is largely disposed of in Australia’s landfills, impacting air, water, and land quality (Department of Climate Change, 2009).
By promoting recycling and composting of materials, we can reduce our load on landfills, reduce our consumption of natural resources, and we can reduce greenhouse gas emissions – whilst also creating blooming gardens at our clinic sites!
